Leave the dirt on my shoes I'm going out for another round I'll be happy when they turn black They"ll get that way when i go back They"ll get that way when i go back I am a lion you can't tame I live in trees and sing with the birds I hunt at night just like an owl I answer wolves with my howl I answer wolves with my howl I find joy in these old woods They keep me happy when you are gone I look to them for a good night And I'll find it in the evening light And I'll find it in the evening light I don't do much when you are home Take care of you and sit inside But when I get an open door I'll take that chance to explore I'll take that chance to explore Leave the dirt on my shoes I'm going out for another round I'll be happy when they turn black They"ll get that way when i go back They"ll get that way when i go back I find joy in these old woods They keep me happy when you are gone I look to them for a good night And I'll find it in the evening light And I'll find it in the evening light And I'll find it in the evening light

Baron Sherod had been given a job as a prison guard at the age of 31 He had applied to join the local police force but was deemed mentally unfit He was diagnosed with PTSD despite never serving in combat during his short stint in the military The warden decided "it takes an animal to keep a zoo in check" Coincidentally, the prison was extremely short staffed Baron wasn't a mean guard but that was worse The prisoners feared him without hating him The warden gave Baron 2 separate awards during his time One for cleanest station, an award given monthly The other an imitation purple heart for being shived while breaking up a fight Baron finally snapped while waiting for a prisoner to shit The prisoner had taken too much of Baron's time So Baron took all of his with a billy club A weapon the warden had forbidden in favor of tasers and rubber bullets Baron had disobeyed direct orders from his superior The judge thought it would be cruel and unusual to send Baron back to his prison He shipped him two states away into a private cell Baron said nothing the four days he was there On the fourth day he was beaten to death by the cousin of his victim Upon further investigation, it was determined there was no blood relation between the two Baron was a constant topic of conversation in the jail he once guarded Some used his story as a cautionary tale for new inmates Others used it as another damning piece of evidence against the system Some reflected on the few words Baron would say while he worked "You may be behind bars now but they'll keep us all from seeing the sun"

You want me to call your name But I don't want to shout You want me to sing your praise But I have my doubts It's funny how the lord lives in us all You want me to read your word But I can't see far You want me to join the herd But it seems bizarre It's funny how the lord lives in us all And taken away from him I still feel his grip Heard peace piped through a speaker In a car Searched for a new religion With a guitar Caught a glimpse of the holy spirit In a bar Said nothing matters unless You become a star Here's your chance to see it In the glaring light Blinking eyes will miss it Staring ones go blind Keeping those eyelids open Will take all your might But it'll be worth that sight Got a job at the factory It ain't far Working all day and night It ain't hard Making rock n roll music In a jar Writing 1,000 tunes a day To punch my card Here's your chance to see it In the glaring light Blinking eyes will miss it Staring ones go blind Keeping those eyelids open Will take all your might But it'll be worth that sight

Clean my eyes To see those jewels No one left to claim em Proud to take the share of fools I want to sleep in the mine I want to sift through the dirt Take every gem I can find Sell them for double their worth Free myself from the tie Keep digging deep in the shaft Learn to hate a blue sky So I can master my craft Taught myself to Work through lunch I know it's down here But I ain't finding much I want to know How deep you go Till it ain't worth Coming back

The river looked clear today Could see what I caught in the water Fish lined up in the stream To be the next man to the slaughter Started a fire on the sand Cooked my fresh victims to a char Felt foolish leaving out meat But best not leave a beast to starve Thought long about my luck As I headed back to the place Most filling meal of the month Received through some form of grace Smelled whiffs of burning wood Before I could even feel the heat Ran so quick the fish came up Hurried fast to see my defeat Lost my lunch in the smoke Threw my head down so I didn't see Nothing left to look at anyway So I let the fire take the trees Slowly led myself to the shore To see what was left of my portion Best not leave a beast to starve Tricks the wild plays on your caution And if I were that beast Would I be thankful or forgetful? Would I bite the hand Or let it feel my fur one last time? I want that rub That I used to wish after But I know those fingers Are now covered in grime

I don't need myself As cruel as that might seem My body's a collapsing beam I don't need myself I don't need myself A modern engine running off of steam A better fate is a pipe dream I don't need myself Hum along When your being just feels wrong Hum along To this old tune I don't trust myself Will I do what it takes to survive? Does this form even have the drive I don't trust myself I don't trust myself How long can we stay alive? Is that goal even worth the strive? I don't trust myself Hum along When your being just feels wrong Hum along When you feel that's life too long Hum along When you're sick of hearing the song Hum along To this old tune
